Air Play

What you need

  • empty squeezy bottles
  • feathers or scraps of paper

What to do

Squeeze the bottle and feel the air come out. Place a feather or a scrap of paper on top and observe what happens when you squeeze the bottle.

What they learn

Air is a hard concept for young children as they cannot see it. This activity helps them to explore air and its properties. They realise that air is invisible but is all around us and that air can be used to move objects.

Encouragement questions

  • How high can you get the small feathers or scraps of paper to fly?

Extra activity

Get your child to blow on their hand. Ask them what they can feel.
